Smith Street Food Complex

Smith Street Food Complex had reopen on 01May'08 after an almost 2yrs closure for refurbishment. Most stalls are expected to be operational by 2nd-wk of May'08.

After a long wait, i finally have time to go visit this newly renovated food complex. I really missed those nice delight there. Went down there on 11th Aug with my parents.

But was quite disappointed with the outcome. I intend to have porridge for breakfast. But the stall that we intend to eat at didn't open...haizz =(

Daddy said there's another stall (文记第一粥家) which sell nice porridge too, so I decided to give it a try. But... it's a great disappointment. I order porridge with "yue sheng". When the "yue sheng" arrive, there's only a few pieces of chillies on top of the raw fish. The porridge came very long later, it's tasted very bland... worst then those i can get from the coffeeshop downstairs. There is very few ingredients in the porridge too. What a lousy Breakfast!!

No wondered all these stalls are complaining that their business is not good, if they continue to serve their customers with low quality products (which they say that the only way to save cost), think they will lost their old customers who used to love their food last time also.

Here's my lousy breakfast!!

My parents order Yong Tou Fu. It taste very nice, i shld hv ordered this!!
Compare with the porridge of mine, it's like heaven & hell. See...who say no customer...this stall hv many...super long Q. Good food will always attract customers de, if they keep up their standard, more customers will come.

I will come back again nxt time. Nxt Target...kakaka =D

Beijing 2008 Olympics ~ Fuwa~ 福娃

Yay!! finally i had collected the full set of the Beijing Olympics Fuwa from Mcdonald's. Got my last piece (beibei) today...thanks to BZ =D

These Fuwa are the Official Mascots of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, they carry a message of friendship & peace and good wishes from China.
Their colours are the 5 Olympic Rings colours. Each Fuwa has a rhyming two-syllable name (a traditional way of expressing affection for children in China). They also embody the natural characteristics of four of China's most popular animals - Beibei the Fish, Jingjing the Panda, Huanhuan the Olympic Flame, Yingying the Tibetan Antelope & Nini the Swallow.

When you put their names together - Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni (北京欢迎你)- means "Welcome to Beijing"

At the headpieces of each Fuwa, you can see the 5 elements of nature - the sea, forest, fire, earth & sky - all stylistically rendered in ways that represent the deep traditional influences of the Chinese folk art & ornamentation.

Beibei (贝贝)

In China's traditional culture & art, the fish and water designs are symbols of prosperity & harvest.

Therefore 贝贝 carries the blessing of prosperity. A fish is also a symbol of surplus in Chinese culture, another measure of a good year & good life.

贝贝's personality is gentle & pure, friendly and a leader. She is strong in water sports and she reflects the Blue Olympic Ring.

Her actual fengshui element is Water.

Jingjing
(晶晶)

He brings the blessing of happiness wherever he goes. He makes children smile, you can see his joy in the charming naivety if his dancing pose & the lovely wave of his black and white fur.

As a national treasure & protected species, pandas are adored by people everywhere.

The lotus design in his headdress, which are inspired by the porcelain paintings of the Song Dynasty (A.D 960-1234), symbolize the lush forest and the harmonious relationship between man & nature.

His actual fengshui element is wood.

晶晶 is chosen to represent our desire to protect nature's gift and to preserve the beauty of nature for all generation.

晶晶's personality is Honest & Optimistic. He is an athlete noted for strength who represents the Black Olympic Ring.

Huanhuan (欢欢)

He is the big brother in the intimate circle of Fuwa. He is a child of Fire, symbolizing the Olympic Flame and passion of sport - and the passion is the blessing he bestows.

欢欢 stands in the center of Fuwa as the core embodiment of the Olympic spirit. And while he inspires all with the passion to run faster, jump higher and be stronger, he is also open and inviting.

His actual fengshui element is Fire.

The fiery designs of his head ornament comes from a design in the Mogao Caves (center of Dunhuang - the best known of Chinese Buddhist grottoes) with just a touch of China's traditional lucky designs.

欢欢 is outgoing & enthusiastic. He excels at all the ball games & represents the Red Olympic Ring.

Yingying
(迎迎)

He is fast & agile and can swiftly cover great stretches of land as he races across the earth, like all antelopes.

A symbol of the vastness of China's landscape, the antelope carries the blessing of health, the strength of body that comes from harmony & nature.

His head ornament incorporates several decorative styles from the Qinghai-Tibet and Sinkiang cultures and the ethnic design traditions of Western China.

His actual fengshui element is Earth. His personality is lively & independent.

Strong in track & field events, 迎迎 is a quick-witted and agile boy who represents the Yellow Olympic Ring.

Nini
(妮妮)

Every spring and summer, the children have flown beautiful kites on the currents of wind that blow through the capital. Among the kite designs, the golden-winged swallow is traditionally one of the most popular.

Her golden wings symbolize the infinite sky and spread good-luck & good fortune as a blessing wherever she flies.

The swallow is a messenger of spring & happiness in Chinese culture.

Swallow is also pronounced "yan" in Chinese, and Yanjing is what Beijing was called as an ancient capital city.

妮妮's actual fengshui element is Metal.

妮妮's personality is Justice & Kind. She is as innocent & joyful as a swallow. She is strong in gymnastics and represents the Green Olympics Ring.

Changi Airport Terminal 3

Changi Airport Terminal 3 commenced operations on 9 January 2008. It's located directly opposite Terminal 2. And it's the largest of Changi Airport's 3 terminals and can handle 22 million passengers a year.

Terminal 3's landmark design is in a class of its own. One of its most outstanding architectural features is the "butterfly" roof design. This unique roof comprises 919 skylights that automatically adjust to the sunlight, allowing just the right amount of soft natural light into the building's interior. These shades are designed to block out the glare and searing heat of the tropical sun.

In addition, nearly all the walls are made of glass - giving a clearer view of planes taking off and landing, wherever you are. Trees, plants & foliage are an integral part of the terminal's interior design.
Another major highlight is the 5-sty high vertical garden, named 'The Green Wall', this vertical garden spans 300m across the main building, creating an expansive natural retreat covered aith tropical foliage and interspersed with four cascading waterfalls. These stunning features can be seen from anywhere within the arrival and departure halls, giving visitors a visual treat whilst waiting.

Le Chasseur ~ 乐食轩 ~ Claypot Rice

Le Chasseur...sound like a French Resturant hor? But it's actually an Asian one, selling local delight ~ claypot rice & many dishes. Went to hv our dinner here today wif my frens (XP, Moshi & Icy) & my bro.

They use high-grade basmati long-grained rice for their claypot rice. We ordered the 2 nos of chicken wif 'lap cheong' claypot rice, the chicken is cooked juz nice...moist & soft!! The waitress told us that a pot is enough for 3pax, but it's actually not enough lor!! i only had this small bowl only....hmm...must go back there again nxt time =P

But must be prepared to wait...atleast 20mins. It's b'cos the claypot is cooked on the spot, so it's take more time, but it's worth the wait. So we ordered the claypot rice first then decide on wat other side dishes after that.

There are many side dishes & soup here.

We order vegetables, pork stew w/ black vinegar (猪脚醋) & soup (咸菜鸭汤) too. I like the 咸菜鸭汤 too, must order again at my nxt visit =D

Heard that sometime really need to wait for a table/seat in this quiet location on a wkday evening. There's an event going on today that this place, tables inside are all reserved. Luckily we still manage to get a table at the corridor =P

乐食轩 is located at the junction of New Bridge Road & Carpenter Street. It's opposite 'The Central', exit at Exit E if u re taking the MRT.

No service charge, No GST, No MSG for this place. Cool hor!! We actually spend less than $50 for all the foods =D

Above is Round #1 for tonite, here we (me, XP & my bro) go for our Round #2.

13th July 2008

Today, 13th Jul'08, is a very meaningful & memorable day for me.

It's b'cos I had attend a very important event of my best fren (someone full of kind-hearted, will give encouragement & hope to others, someone who will lend a listening ear). Today is an important day, a 'Big Day' for him, today is his baptism, which will mark a new chapter of his life.

I also get to know many new frens today, they are a group of fun & friendly ppl. I had also witness the process of Baptism which i had never seen before. It will be an unforgettable day for me. =D
